MONDARMONI

Mandarmani is a beach resort in Purba Medinipur district of South Bengal , one of the southern districts of West Bengal . It is almost 180km from Kolkata Airport on the Kolkata - Digha route and just 14km from Chaulkhola .Mandarmani is one of Bengal’s recently developed tourist destination that lies close to ever-popular Digha and Shankarpur. With sun and surf, pristine sea beach and untrammeled silt coloured sand, this beach is slowly becoming popular among the tourists.Mandarmani boasts of a 13 km long motorable beach, probably the longest motorable beach road in India. On the beach you will undoubtedly get the chance to feel the divinity and tranquility. If that is not enough to please your senses, then try to loll on the sand and listen to the waves crashing upon the shore, which will surely drive away your bustling pressure.

HOW TO REACH:

By bus:

From Kolkata, catch a bus at Esplanade or at Howrah headed for Chawalkhola, or any bus headed towards Digha. From Chawlkhola there are cycle-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws which you can take to Dadanpatrabar. From Dadanpatrabar, you can again get some cycle-rickshaws, but it is best to take the transport from Chawalkhola till Mandarmani since transport availability from Dadanpatrabar is very uncertain. Get down at Chawalkhola, and look for private cars. You may contact Bisu for a drop to Mandarmani. Fare would be about 200 to 250/- for a drop at Mandarmani sea beach.

By Train:

Ramnagar is the closest station for Mondarmoni, but Digha is preferable. Form Digha Car or Motorvan are available for Mondarmoni throughout the day.

DISTANCE:

Chawlkhola – Mondarmoni : 9 KM

Digha – Mondarmoni : 30 KM

Ramnagar – Mondarmoni : 21 KM

ATTRACTION:

The beach – Most people are here to hang out at the beach. The waves tend to be calm, dotted with a few fisherman going about their daily routine.

The Delta – At the end of the beach, there is the 'mohana' or river delta (place where a river meets the sea). There are some fishing settlements nearby.

This place is about 5-6 Km from the main part of the beach where most of the hotels/resorts are located and is really beautiful with a scenic backdrop. On one side of the river there are dense jhau trees, while on the other side is the fishing village. A bit further from the village on the other bank of the river is some dense vegetation. It is not realistic to attempt to cross over to the other side and go into this forest as it is actually quite distant, despite appearing to be quite close.
